More of the Same

Well, now that the Democrats control both houses of Congress, we can expect some real changes... right?

"Yeah right."

Their leadership has already said they won't go after Bush and his cronies. If ever a president needed impeaching, he's it!

"But noooo...."

After all the balleyhooing over lies about weapons of mass destruction, mismanagement of the war in Iraq, illegal NSA wiretapping, etc, we get....(ta da!)...a raise in the minimum wage.

"Wait...huh?"

And here was I, believing that Iraq was the main issue on voter's minds when they went to the polls.

"Silly boy."

As usual, the Washington crowd worked another deft bait and switch grift on the American people.

"Suckers!"

Even Rumsfeld stole their thunder by resigning before the Dems actually took control.

"Great. "

Thanks for (almost) nothing Democrats!

"Stuff it. We're in charge now."

So, you think the Democrats are not going to open investigations into pre-war intelligence? They are not going to go after Republican dominated contractors bilking the gov't? They are going to try to replace social security with a national 401k? That minimum wage is irrelavent to the lives of millions of Americans?

If Democrats are the same as Republicans, then we should expect to see no changes in any policies as a result of the elections.

As I've always said, Democrats aren't going to solve everything, and they will be weenies. But to criticize them for not immediately pursuing impeachment when they have not even taken power yet, and when you didn't even vote is the just silly.

It's not that they haven't "immediately" pursued impeachment. They said they WILL NOT pursue it. So no change there.

It's not that I don't expect a "change in policies," it's that there won't be a change in Washington's business-as-usual attitude. If this did change, then we'd get not only impeachment hearings, but real progress toward doing something about global warming, which I consider to be the most urgent problem faced not only by congress, but the entire world.

Besides, what good will "investigations into pre-war intelligence" do? Especially since we already know what happened, Rumsfeld is already gone, and they won't impeach? Other than just waste lots of tax dollars for no good reason, I mean? No change there.

I also seem to remember the left going apey when the right wanted to turn social security funds into the stock market. Yet, that's what (you say) the dems now want to do. Where do you think 401k's get their growth? The investment fairey? No change there.

And as far as contractors bilking the government, I seem to remember that we've had the problem of $5000 toilet seats and $800 wrenches back during the long reign of the dems in congress before 1992 (when the repubs took over). So I don't expect any REAL change their either. Just that they will go after the current abusers, then it will start all over again. Of this, I have no doubt.

Is the minimum wage irrelevant? I think so. If the people working minimum wage get a raise, they'll still be as poor as they are now, because prices will continue to go up. This is basic economics. As wages go up, prices go up. Sure, it sounds good, but is it going to turn poor people to middle class people? I don't think so. So no change there.

And as far as whether I vote or not goes, let me say (gently) that you're starting sound like those "America, Love it or leave it" rednecks. They like to say that you can't complain about who's in office if you don't vote. Baloney. My free speech rights under the first amendment are not contingent upon whether I vote or not. They are GUARENTEED rights. Not conditional. So I can yap away (foolishly or wisely) as much as I want or dare.

I think I've covered all your points, so let me say this. Again. The problem I see is not who is in power, it is the system.
I wouldn't be able to live with myself if supported Dems (because of abortion, etc) or Repubs (you name it). So what is left to me, but to form my own party, run for office? If I got there, I'd be fighting against and immovable wall of Dems and Repubs and eventually I would fall in line and succumb to the same temptations that everyone else in power has done, that is: (everything listed above).

I wish I had the answer. But I don't. But I think God has the answer. He must either do away with us completely, now, or change us fundamentally before we destroy ourselves. I can do neither of these things, and wouldn't want to try.

Peace On Earth.
